We are fighting so many wars on so many fronts.
This month is National Human Trafficking Awareness month.
While Enough Is Enough® is a secular organization with the goal of making the Internet safer for children and families from all faiths and no faith, I am a person of the Christian faith and seek guidance constantly from the Lord. As I was reading Psalm 10 this week, I was reassured that God is ultimately triumphant over evil.
It often feels like an uphill battle, when we win one battle, there are so many more to fight. And the issues are huge....
Sex trafficking is a global form of modern-day slavery in which individuals are coerced to perform commercial sex acts against their will. Sex traffickers use the internet as the most dominant business model used to solicit buyers of commercial sex (used in 87.7% of sex trafficking cases active in 2018) and was also the most common method for luring victims (used in 42.5% of sex trafficking cases active in 2018). Human trafficking is a $150 billion/yr industry, the most profitable international crime business, second only to narcotics!
The Porn industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and children under 10 yrs. old now account for 22% of online porn consumption of youth under 18 years old. Pornography is a form of sex trafficking as it perpetuates the sexual exploitation and trafficking of women and children, and fuels the growing demand for child sex abuse imagery (a.k.a "child pornography").
Child sex abuse images have exploded - In 2018, tech companies reported over 45 million online photos and videos of children being sexually abused, double the amount from the year before.
Psalm 10 applies to today including the deceptive and wicked schemes used by sex traffickers, predators, child rapists, child pornographers and pornographers in today's digital world, preying on the innocent, the helpless and the fatherless:
"the wicked "sits in the lurking places.... in the secret places he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless. He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den. He lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net..... he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength.
... But Lord, You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand.... You are the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until you find none... do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the wicked of the earth may oppress no more"
Our creator designed us to have dominion over the earth and to be His ambassadors to promote righteousness and love. He also empowers us to fight against evil and all forms of wickedness.
British statesman Edmund Burke once said, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Each of our programs and campaigns is designed to defend child dignity in the digital world and provide the tools and practices to make the internet safer for children and families.
Each women and child protected is a victory! Educating the masses is a victory! Safe WiFiSM in Starbucks and McDonald's is a victory! The Internet Safety Presidential Pledge, Governor's Pledge and State AG's Pledges are huge victories!
Our goal, NO CHILD LEFT UNPROTECTED!
