Statement from Enough Is Enough® President Donna Rice Hughes on the Release of the Final Report of The Youth Internet Safety Task Force by Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell
Enough Is Enough® applauds Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell for championing a statewide effort to find viable solutions to combat sexual predation and pornography on the Internet. It represents a major step forward for Internet child safety, and can serve as a national model that should be replicated in every state. Enough Is Enough® is proud to be working with Attorney General McDonnell in this unprecedented effort.
The structure of the task force emphasized the importance of a shared responsibility between the public, industry and law enforcement, which has been the model for Enough Is Enough®'s twelve year effort to make the Internet safer for children and families. We are proud to be part of General McDonnell's task force in which industry leaders, law enforcement officials, parents and educators worked together to ensure that Virginia's children enjoy a safe and rewarding Internet experience, free from the intrusion of those who desire to sexually exploit them.
The pioneering legal strides that will be implemented throughout Virginia are encouraging, as is the Attorney General's commitment to a significant parental education and empowerment initiative. Parents and guardians are the first line of defense in protecting America's children online. Enough Is Enough® has been echoing this message nationally for more than a decade, and is delighted to see it being vigorously adopted by Virginia, our home state.
Last year, Enough Is Enough® launched its Internet Safety 101®: Empowering Parents program in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice. The program will equip parents with Internet safety Rules 'N Tools information and solutions. The program will be initiated in Virginia in 2007, and Enough Is Enough® and the Attorney General are collaborating to incorporate it as a major component of the parental empowerment campaign announced today by General McDonnell.
