On today's episode of "Internet Safety with Donna Rice Hughes"-- Donna is joined byJohn Pizzuro, CEO of Raven and former commander of the New Jersey ICAC Task Force, to discuss the legislative challenges and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in online child exploitation. Topics include Raven’s mission to bridge gaps between legislation and law enforcement, the complexities of end-to-end encryption, and the implications of AI in generating child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Emphasis is placed on the urgent need for updated technology, better training, increased funding, and practical parental guidance to protect children from online predators.

 By the numbers:

  • The U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) said it had received 4,700 reports last year about content generated by artificial intelligence that depicted child sexual exploitation.
  • An Internet Watch Foundation report stated that IWF recorded a 168% rise in 2022 in AI-generated child sexual images compared to 2021. 
  • In 2023, a bipartisan coalition of 54 state and territory attorneys general urge Congress to study how artificial intelligence (AI) can and is being used to exploit children through child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
