The Aftermath of the Sex Ed Sit Out

Dear Friends,

On Monday, April 23, parents around the country and in other parts of the world pulled their kids out of school for the day to protest dangerous and graphic sex education that is being taught in many school districts in our nation.

We've heard back from a lot of concerned parents wanting to know what and if this is happening in their own child's school district. We encourage all parents to request a copy of the curriculum, books and videos that their kids are seeing.

Please note that not all school districts have incorporated these radical curriculums but far too many have. EIE has been been following this closely, and our goal in sharing #SexEdSitOut campaign with you is to make sure you aware of what students are being taught in many public schools.

Case it point - the article Orgasm Ed Oral, Anal and Sex Toys in 9th Grade Girls' 'Family life' Class details how some Virginia students were recently exposed to explicit "how-to" content on male and female sexual pleasure, including a video emphasizing"penile, anal, and prostate delectation, with precise anatomical instruction on how to stimulate the various zones." (Warning: story contains graphic content). The This was NOT part of the original curriculum and done WITHOUT parent's knowledge. The story made national headlines as a result of the outrage of parents, thankfully, the school board cut ties with the agency who provided the materials.

“Your children are in danger of being exposed to ‘Pornography 101’ under the guise of sex education in many schools.....Know what is being taught in your child’s school and be prepared to walk out. I encourage you to be involved, know what’s going on, and let your voice be heard.”

--Reverend Franklin Graham

According to the Liberty Counsel, "the laws in 43 states have exemptions from obscenity laws that permit sexually explicit materials in schools...these laws protect school employees who provide students with pornographic materials from criminal prosecution under the guise that the materials are 'educational.'"

We have learned that often graphic material is introduced outside of "Sex Ed," often in anti-bullying courses. When this is the case, it's nearly impossible to opt out, so its important to simply ask your child what he or she is learning and have open and honest discussions. Speak up when materials taught have crossed the line and engage other parents to do the same!

Our belief is that parents are the ones who should be the first-line educators for their child's sexual education and well-being. Please follow us on social media for more updated information. For more information about the Sex Ed Sit Out, please click here.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Did you know that 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime?

If you or someone you know needs additional support, please see EIE's Resource Center that includes a variety of materials including suggested readings, audio and videotapes, CD's, and Internet resources to those searching for healing from the harms of pornography, sexual addiction and sexual abuse.

Thank you for joining EIE as we continue to fight to defend the innocence of children and promote a culture where all people are respected and valued.
