P. S. President Trump is leveraging the Defense Production Act to spur the private sector to step up and help combat the coronavirus.
Ford is collaborating with 3M and GE healthcare to increase the production of ventilators, respirators, and plastic face shields.
- FORD: “Ford Motor Company, joining forces with firms including 3M and GE Healthcare, is lending its manufacturing and engineering expertise to quickly expand production of urgently needed medical equipment and supplies for healthcare workers, first responders and patients fighting coronavirus.”
- FORD: “Ford plans to assemble more than 100,000 face shields per week and leverage its in-house 3D printing capability to produce components for use in personal protective equipment.”
3M doubled their global output of N95 respirator masks in response to the coronavirus emergency.
- 3M: “To fight #COVID19 & support healthcare workers, we have doubled our global output of N95 respirators to an annual rate of over 1.1 billion per year, or nearly 100 million per month.”
HP is utilizing 3D printing to produce equipment including face shields, mask adjusters, and hands-free door openers.
- HP: “HP and our digital manufacturing partners are working non-stop in the battle against this unprecedented virus. We are collaborating across borders and industries to identify the parts most in need, validate the designs, and begin 3D printing them.”
MyPillow announced that they will begin manufacturing face masks to help hospitals across the nation.

Facebook donated their emergency reserve of over 700,000 masks, and are working to source millions more to donate.
- FACEBOOK CEO MARK ZUCKERBERG: “Health workers urgently need more protective gear. To help, Facebook donated our emergency reserve of 720,000 masks that we had bought in case the wildfires continued. We’re also working on sourcing millions of more to donate.”
Fiat Chrysler announced it would donate more than 1 million protective face masks a month.
- FIAT CHRYSLER: “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is stepping in to help those at the front line of the coronavirus pandemic by manufacturing and donating more than 1 million protective face masks per month.”
Apple announced the donation of millions of N-95 masks to healthcare professionals.
- APPLE CEO TIM COOK: “Our teams at Apple have been working to help source supplies for healthcare providers fighting COVID-19. We’re donating millions of masks for health professionals in the US and Europe. To every one of the heroes on the front lines, we thank you.”
Pernod Ricard is repurposing its spirits production facilities to help produce hand sanitizer.

Anheuser-Busch is working to produce and distribute hand sanitizer and has offered its facilities to the American Red Cross to host blood drives.
- ANHEUSER-BUSCH: “We have a long history of supporting our communities and employees - this time is no different. That’s why we are using our supply and logistics network to begin producing and distributing bottles of hand sanitizer to accommodate the growing needs across the United States.”

The company’s tour centers in Merrimack, NH, and St. Louis, MO, will also be made available to the Red Cross.”
Bacardi is producing ethanol required to make hand sanitizer.

Medtronic is increasing its production of ventilators, announcing that they are on track to double their capacity to manufacture and supply ventilators.

The company has increased production by more than 40 percent to date and is on track to more than double its capacity to manufacture and supply ventilators in response to the urgent needs of patients and healthcare systems across the globe confronting COVID-19.”
Hanes has agreed to use its manufacturing facilities to help produce medical masks.
- HANES: “At Team Hanes, we are working to help by retrofitting some of our facilities to produce medical masks urgently needed in the U.S. to fight the spread of the virus.”
Tesla purchased and donated more than 1,000 ventilators.
- REUTERS: “Tesla bought hospital ventilators in China and shipped them to the United States, CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday….California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday said the state would receive 1,000 ventilators from Tesla as the United States braces to deal with an influx of patients infected by the coronavirus.”
SpaceX is making hand sanitizer and face shields for local hospitals.
- CNBC: “SpaceX is making hand sanitizer and face shields and donating them to local hospitals and other businesses, according to a memo sent to employees over the weekend.”
General Motors is working to provide technical assistance in order to dramatically speed up the production of ventilators.
